PLANNING YOURÂ ORCHARD
It is sometimes said that .. "An orchard can consist of just 3 or 4 trees"
But, however large or small your ideas are for an orchard, the enjoyment of it can be significant. You might picture showers of pink petals falling to the spring grass, picking baskets of rosy-skinned fruit in the autumn, or just having a space where you can lean against a tree trunk and breathe. These are all ways in which we can reduce the stress in our busy lives.

It all sounds idyllic, and it can be too - but there are a number of issues to consider when planning for your orchard. For example: how much space will you need? How many trees can you fit in? Should you plant eaters or cookers? What rootstock is needed so that the trees grow to the right size? Do you need a 'pollinator'? ... and so on. Initially, it can be bewildering, and without getting it right at the beginning, you could end up with something that just doesn't work for you.
